Our sick days...

So this is a late blog about our sick week. I think I posted last a month ago about how Dezi and I got really sick out of both ends, well these are the pictures.

This is the second day he was sick. I fed him breakfast and he fell right back asleep in his high chair. Poor thing! He slept for another 3 hours.

When he woke up this is what he pretty much did all day. I couldn't really do anything cause if I left his side he started crying. So I pretty much stayed next to him on the bed the entire day.

Dezi's little...BIG accident...

On Saturday, March 21st, Dezi had a little accident that turned in to a big one. My family was going camping at Bellows starting from Sunday the 22nd to Friday the 27th. Well on Saturday night at around 8 p.m. I was folding laundry and getting the rest of our stuff together for the camping vacation, when Dezi fell off of the bed. He was playing peek-a-boo with the unfolded laundry while I was folding it. I was folding a shirt when I saw from my peripheral vision that he stood up and when I reached out to grab him he turned quickly and stepped right off of the bed. You can imagine how bad I felt knowing that if I reached out just a millisecond quicker I could have grabbed him. That's how close I was, but couldn't quite reach him. He fell and hit the hardwood floor on his left side and immediately started to cry. Sadly this is not the first time he fell off of the bed but I thought he would be okay. So I pick him up and he calms down a little as I'm rocking him and rubbing his head. I did notice right away that he was not moving his left arm but I thought, "well he landed on it so maybe it's just really sore." Not the case. But I'll explain in a minute. Gil and I were giving him balls and balloons to see if he could move his arm which he could with out complaining. So we went to bed that night and he only got up twice to fuss a little bit but then went right back to sleep. Well at 5a.m. Dezi woke up crying and fussing and wouldn't go back to sleep so we turned the light on and I noticed that his elbow was swollen. We immediately took him to Kapiolani's E.R. and they were very quick and gentle with him.

We were called in after waiting in the waiting area @ around 6:45a.m. the nurse took all his measurements and temperature, gave him his little band, asked us a few questions, and took us to a room where we waited for the doctor. About 15-20 min. the doctor came in and looked at his arm and immediately could tell that he probably fractured his elbow but wanted to take x-rays just to be sure. Doctor "B" (Boychuck) was a cute chubby older doctor that kept calling Dezi peanut. He was very gentle, quick and accurate. As soon as he told us what the problem might be I couldn't help but to break down in tears. He assured me that everything would be okay and "Boys will be boys." I really appreciate how he tried to make me feel better. But it didn't. So a nurse came in and gave Dezi some Motrin then another nurse came and took us to the x-ray room. I lost it there in the back cause they had to move his arm in different positions to get different angles of his elbow and I knew it was hurting him so bad. I was crying so hard that the nurse had to calm me down and asked if I was okay. The x-ray showed that his elbow more bent I think. That's the best I can describe it now. Doctor "B" said....."see how the bone (from shoulder down) is angled this way?" (if your looking side view at his left arm the bone was angled toward his back...I guess like this- \) "Well it's supposed to be angled this way." (like this-/) For those of you who live in Hawaii I will show you the x-ray if you want. Anyway, so that's how he was able to hold the balls and not really cry cause his bone didn't necessarily break, but they do call it a fracture? Matt can you explain that one next time I see you? If you know.

Anyway he had a temp cast put on at Kapiolani then a real cast the next day (Monday). He is doing great and hardly ever notices that he has a cast. Of course he can't do certain things like he used to but he finds another way. He is still very active and I guess I'm grateful for that but now that he has the cast I'm worried about him landing on it or what ever but I can't really stop him from being himself.

Sorry this post was kinda long but here are some pics of us at camp. The first pic is his temp cast and the others are his real cast.
